The Hermoupolis 16th guitar festival is officially over for this year. It took place in Syros, the "Lady of the Cyclades", Greece, from July 12th to July 16th 2009 with exciting concerts, interesting classes, valuable workshops...Copying from the festival's official web site"...The festival was organized by the Hermoupolis Cultural Centre and this year it was dedicated to to the life and work of the famous Brazilian Composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (March 5, 1887 - November 17, 1959). 50 years from his death.

He wrote numerous works for orchestra, vocal and instrument ensemble, as well solo instruments. Typical for his work is the incorporation of Brazilian folk music, but he also used style elements from impressionism, expressionism, baroque, and classicism.
Villa-Lobos is the best known classical composer of South America.
